This course will use athletic events, both current and throughout history, as a platform for research and reporting. Resources will be used throughout the course in order to learn about great moments in sports history, famous sports authors and journalists, reporting styles, origins of specific sporting events, and how media has impacted athletics. While I hope for you to find this course as a nice change of pace from anything you've experienced in other classes, please understand that most components of other traditional courses will be required, such as essays, presentations, quizzes, homework, and class participation.
Below you will find a brief overview of topics that will be addressed throughout this course: - Sports Journalism - Digital communication (blogs and websites) - Influence of technology on sports media - Memorable Olympic moments - Origins of sports - This Week in Sports History - Champions of Competition
This course is very new, so expect changes as we move through the quarter. I am always open to suggestions about what you would like to learn, report, create, view, and write. We will learn from one another in this class, so be prepared to speak up and present your findings when asked or required.
